The Princess' Protector by DrZime The Princess' Protector by DrZime
:star: Available as a Print

Here's another picture I've been trying to finish for what seems like forever. :faint: Busy busy busy.

I was thinking a while ago that it's unfair that skeletons are always viewed as evil. So, I came up with an idea where one gets to save the princess from its evil counterparts. Seems like a fun story to me!

Inspiration goes to Ray Harryhausen. (Although he only got to animate bad skeletons. Heehee. They were still awesome.)

I don't know if I made it obvious enough, what with his heroic pose, blue instead of red eyes, the cross on his breastplate, and the fact that the girl's not trying to get away from him, I thought that it'd be obvious enough that the skeleton is rescuing her. :XD:

Unfortunately it appears their path is blocked by one last big daddy.

I did a couple of new things while working on this picture. Namely the patterns I drew on before shading it. It was fun but very, very time-consuming.
I also worked at MUCH higher resolution than usual. I got a new computer, might as well use it!

I should probably give them names... How about Janna and Jurgen? :3

Can love transcend life? Who knows?

This is a very good concept. It'd make an amazing movie!

So somehow he manaed to retain a bit of his humanity. I wonder...

I love the idea of this, and the design is fantastic! And I really adore the way you've done the background, with the complimentary colours and the dramatic lighting AND IT'S AMAZING  And the pair of them are just adorable, and he has the most fabulous spikes on his boots :D

The story behind Jurgen (the skeleton)... he doesn't have one. The princess is captured and he just comes and rescues her out of the blue. He can't talk, so the princess is very unsure of him at first.

I LIKE IT! awesome twist for a usually portrayed evil skelly :).
I like everything about this image, I find the design of both undead hero and princess looks great, I find I keep looking all over the picture at all the details. Like the shadow of the opponents hand and the other skellys on the wall.
I'm also digging that rain :D.

Epic art! You did a spectacular job with the concept of a good skeleton saving a princess. You did excellent work designing the skeleton and princess. I love the background for this one too. It is really cool how you have the rain dripping off of the skeleton's sword and head gear. And the obstacle's shadow looks very menacing.

Super awesome art work, do more! The costume designs for Jurgen and Janna are great as well as the colors. I like your idea of blue eyes instead of red. I'm with you, skeletons should be portrayed as good way more often. Who is the baddy?

It's not very realistic anatomy on the skeleton, but I'm glad it looks good. :D

As I'm looking at it, though, I'm wondering if her second foot is just hidden...or missing?

Her knee is up on Mr. Skeleton's leg, so her foot is behind there. :) It's hidden, not missing. That would be one heck of an error. Haha.

I think this is a wonderful picture, and I quite like both their designs (especially the skeleton's) but — I don't know if I'm reading this wrong — but it looks like she's looking in a slightly different direction than the one she is pointing in and that the skeleton is looking and brandishing his sword at.
