John Carter

Saw it! Loved it! Had a grand old time at the theater (twice!).

Zime's been a HUGE fan of the books since she was a little girl, and to finally see my favorite characters on the big screen (especially Tars Tarkas. He's one of my favoritest characters ever!) was awesome.

I was happily surprised to find that I liked both Taylor Kitsch and Lynn Collins in their roles as John Carter and Dejah Thoris. Especially Dejah. For once we have a leading lady who's not a twenty year old! For once we get a wonderful beautiful woman who's about the same age as the dude (around thirty).

The movie follows the same basic plot of the book: "Save the princess and get the green men to help", except they also threw in some Therns to help lead us into the second book, Gods of Mars. (A sequel may never be made, but the movie's still good on its own.)

I had trouble drawing John for a while. It's difficult to draw men with long hair and have it look good. Then I reminded myself that hey -- I draw cartoons! Let's just exaggerate his chin and scruff up his hair. It doesn't have to look exactly like the actor. Haha.

Anyway! There's lots to love in this movie. So if you want to have a fun, exciting time at the theater, I suggest this one.

Oh. And read the book, A Princess of Mars for sure. It's amazing.
